Private Acquisitions

The most significant works available in any given year never appear in a sale catalogue. They exist in private collections, estates, and family offices, accessible only through relationships that take years to build.

We source exceptional, off-market works across Old Masters, Impressionism, Modern, and Post-War art that rarely enter the public domain. From a Caravaggio to a Blue Period Picasso, we work with established collectors who transact only through our private channels.

Every acquisition mandate begins with a detailed brief. We establish what you are looking for, with what provenance requirements and condition expectations. We then work exclusively on that mandate, sourcing, vetting, and presenting opportunities until the right work is found.

Auction Advisory

The major auction houses, Christie's, Sotheby's, Phillips, Bonhams, offer access to significant works. Navigating them at the level where outcomes matter requires experience, relationships, and a clear-eyed view of the room.

Cambridge Collective advises clients on both the buy side and the sell side at auction. Whether you are pursuing a coveted lot, consigning a work, or evaluating an estate sale, we provide strategic counsel across every stage of the process.

On the sell side, we advise on which house and which sale season positions a work most advantageously. We negotiate directly with specialists on estimate setting, guarantee structures, and fee arrangements. Where a private sale would serve a client better than public auction, we say so and we pursue it.

On the buy side, we track major sale calendars globally, identify works of genuine interest, conduct pre-sale due diligence, and advise on bidding strategy. Our counsel is never influenced by relationships with consignors or houses. Only by your interests.

Collection Advisory

A collection is not a snapshot. It is a direction. We study your holdings in depth to understand their core strengths, gaps, and long-term trajectory, then advise on what to acquire, what to consider selling, and how to build a collection with lasting cultural and financial weight.

We function as an ongoing advisory partner. We maintain a comprehensive view of your collection, track market developments that affect individual works, and advise on the strategic direction over time. We are not motivated by transaction volume. We are motivated by the quality of what you hold.

Our stewardship services encompass the full lifecycle of a collection: from first acquisition through conservation strategy, storage, insurance, loan management, and eventual disposition. We work closely with conservators, art handlers, and legal counsel to ensure every aspect is managed to the standard the works deserve.

For estates and family offices, we also provide strategic counsel on collection inheritance, charitable gifting structures, and the integration of the art collection within a broader wealth management framework.

Due Diligence

When we identify a candidate work, we conduct thorough due diligence: provenance review, catalogue raisonne check, and condition report review. We present only works that meet the brief in full.

Step 04

Private Viewing and Closing

We arrange a private viewing for you. If you wish to proceed, we negotiate the best possible price, structure the transaction to your needs, and coordinate all logistics through to delivery.
